Our Walking Guide | Jurassic coast

Andy Pederick, is the local walking guide who will be looking after our groups down on the Jurassic Coast. Here we have asked Andy some questions about the area and how he got into walking.

Q: What do you love about walking?

Andy: Being out in the natural environment with its every-changing scenery, plus keeping fit.

Q: Have you always lived in Dorset?

Andy: I moved to Poole from South Devon straight from school in 1975

Q: How long have you been guiding walks?

Andy: For approximately 25 years and at Jurassic Jaunts, since 2006 which is when I gave up corporate life.

Q: When did you first get into walking?

Andy: I have walked on the coast and inner Dorset since the late 70s, then was asked to do a charity walk along the coast in about 1993. I realised how good it really was with its history and war backgrounds so it combined my interest in facts and figures with a great environment.

Q: Where is your favourite place to walk on the Jurassic Coast and why?

Andy: A really difficult question but anywhere between Swanage and Portland is great.  Inner Dorset is also really good. If pushed, I would say the walk from Kimmeridge to Lulworth, taking in Tyneham village.

Q: What piece of advice would you give to anybody going on a walking holiday?

Andy: Allow plenty of time to enjoy it, prepare for any weather by wearing layers plus a good supply of food and water. Don’t rely solely on your mobile phone on any route planned! In an emergency, 999 will probably work, even if it says you have no signal.

A: Have you ever been on a walking holiday?

Andy: No, not an official holiday but have done many one-day walks with the local guides in the areas visited because, as you’d expect me to say, you get so much background history and information with a guide that you would miss without one.

Q: Where was the last place you went on holiday?

Andy: South Africa – a stunning country for walking, food, service, wine, golf and culture

Q: Favourite place to walk in the UK?

Andy: Lake District and Jurassic Coast

Q: Favourite place to walk abroad?

Andy: South Africa
