Hadrian’s Wall was built by the Romans in the 2nd century AD to mark the northern boundary of the Roman Empire and protect against invasions from the north, it was a huge undertaking with a full-size fort every five miles. Today, it is a UNESCO World heritage Site with large fragments of the wall and its forts remaining, of which can be discovered on the 84-mile Hadrian’s Wall path, linking the west and the east coasts of Northern England.

During your walking holiday to Hadrians wall your guide will take you on the some of the finest features along the wall, visiting quaint villages and towns set amongst stunning scenery.

Your first walk will begin in Steel Rigg with panoramic views of the Northumberland National Park and surrounding landscape, moving on to view Sycamore Gap. Sadly the once famous landmark that was home to the English tree of the year in 2016 is no longer standing due to mindless vandalism.

The site was made famous by featuring in several high profile films, such as Robin Hood prince of Thieves and being a fantastic place for photography and star gazing.

Moving on you will be able to visit one of the best-preserved forts at Housesteads followed by Vindolanda, renowned for its well-preserved artifacts and, finally arrive at Brocolitia Roman Temple, a site which includes the remains of a Roman temple dedicated to the god Mithras.

Your second walk on your walking holiday to Hadrians Wall starts in Corbridge, a charming village with a rich history and carries on to Humshaugh, following a scenic stretch of Hadrian’s Wall. Humshaugh is a quaint village and hosts the 14th century Haughton castle, one of the best-preserved hall houses in the north of England.
