Below we have made a list of top 5 tips when walking in Spring this year. Check them out and let us know your top tips for when you going walking in the Spring time.

Wear multiple thin layers when walking in the Spring. Whether you're in the UK or in warmer climates, it's always a good idea to have layers you can put on and take off. Spring weather can vary massively from one moment to the next. One minute the sun will be shining and the birds are singing and the next, you are caught in a strong breeze, it's started raining and you wish you had stopped off to have the cream scone at the last cafe you went past! Make sure that if you’re not wearing a waterproof to have a light one available in your day bag. Ideally you should also carry a fleece or thick jumper, sun hat, sun cream and two thin layers that can be added or taken off according to the temperature.

Always take a mobile with you on your own hikes/walks in case of an emergency. It doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles, so as long as you can ring someone. Always take note of your surroundings and anticipate where you will get a signal. In 2009 UK mobile phone networks introduced “Emergency Call Roaming” this means that although your mobile might not show a signal, it may still be able to use a different network to connect the emergency call. Be aware that this can only dial out and no one can dial you, so make sure not to hang up in an emergency!

Always take plenty of water. It is a common misconception that it isn't as hot in Spring so you won't need as much water, but if you are walking and wearing multiple layers, you're going to start to lose a lot of energy and will need to be kept hydrated.

It’s pretty important that your boots are fit for purpose. Some people only have one pair of good old trusty walking boots, but having a couple in your wardrobe and at your disposal is great if you walk all year round. Ideally you should have a waterproof pair that can keep your feet warm and dry throughout the wetter months, and a summer pair available for those warmer climate hikes and summer walking. This will ensure your feet are well ventilated and fresh, as when you started the day. Your feet will thank you for this after a long day of walking!

Spring offers so many opportunities to take great pictures and capture fantastic moments. Whether its awesome panoramic views, beautiful flora or even just a smiling selfie. Don’t forget your camera, or better still invest in a mobile phone that has a decent camera and you’ve ticked a couple of boxes already! Oh and don’t forget to send us your snaps of you and your walking groups on social media, we love to see you guys walking, even if you're not on holiday!
