If you’re looking for a walking holiday that swaps grey skies for golden sunshine, Gran Canaria might just be your perfect match. With breathtaking landscapes, incredible views and a warm climate that makes walking a pleasure all year round, it’s the kind of destination that gets under your skin from the moment you arrive.
Our MD Steve experienced it first-hand, and it’s fair to say he was impressed. The walks were a highlight, but what really struck him was how much there is to see and do beyond the trails. Gran Canaria’s extensive coastline means stunning beaches are never far away, perfect for a leisurely stroll or simply soaking up the sun between walks.
The hotel itself is brilliantly located, overlooking the promenade and the famous Las Canteras beach, with the beautiful town of Las Palmas right on the doorstep. When we caught up with Steve, it was the location that came up straight away. “The hotel’s proximity to the town is fantastic,” he told us, “and the walks along the coastline are simply stunning.”
Whether you’re after dramatic scenery, relaxed beach days or a warm escape from the British weather, Gran Canaria delivers on every front.

Just a short hop from Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura is an island with a personality all of its own. Where Gran Canaria dazzles with its mountains and ravines, Fuerteventura captivates with sweeping golden dunes, vast open plains and raw volcanic landscapes that make every walk feel like an adventure. The varied terrain means no two days look the same, and that’s exactly what makes it such a rewarding destination for walkers.
Steve joined the group out on one of the walks and got a real feel for what makes this island so special. A big part of that was the local guide Damiano, his passion for the island is impossible not to get swept up in. He knows the best path, viewpoints and every story behind the landscapes he walks through every day. For him, guiding isn’t just a job, it’s a chance to share the place he loves with people who are seeing it for the first time, and that enthusiasm is infectious.
Damiano even surprised the group mid-walk with a taste of something truly special: Canarian gofio, a traditional local cake made from a recipe passed down through generations. It went down an absolute treat with the guests, and it perfectly summed up everything that makes a guided holiday so memorable. It’s those unexpected moments, the local knowledge, the hidden gems and the warmth of the people you meet along the way, that turn a great holiday into an unforgettable one!
See what all the fuss is about and try some Canarian Golfio for yourself at home. We’ve got the recipe below.
Or better yet plan your next trip and visit the island yourself and experience the authentic taste first hand!
The Canarian gofio is the best known food on the archipelago, together with bananas. And it can be prepared by yourself in different ways. For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
