Riki loves the great outdoors and is always on the look out for a new adventure.
Q: Where is your favourite place to walk and why?
Riki: I truly enjoy walking wherever I find myself, the feeling of putting one foot in front of the other and just going with the flow, this is what I love most about walking. But if you force me to choose, then anywhere I find myself in Wales is always the best walk for me.
Q: How long have you been a walking guide?
Riki: Over twenty years.
Q: What food would you recommend to take on a walk?
Riki: Cadbury’s Fruit and Nut.
Q: How far do you normally walk in a week?
Riki: I average around 20,000 steps every day, about 65 miles a week.
Q: Do you use any specialist equipment?
Riki: Not at all, I am very much a come as you are type.
Q: How fit do you need to be to go on our walking holiday?
Riki: You need a reasonable level of fitness, if you lose your breath walking upstairs then you may struggle a little.
A: Do you walk in all weathers?
Riki: Yes, there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.
Q: What to wear on a walking holiday?
Riki: Depending on where; a good sun hat, comfortable and weather appropriate clothing, footwear that you find comfortable to wear (walking boots, trainers, strong shoes), the older you get ankle support becomes more and more important.
Q: What one item should you always pack for a walking holiday? (Not walking boots)
Riki: A walking stick or walking pole, also a bum sized piece of karrimat to sit on.
Q: Where was the last place you went on holiday?
Riki: My last holiday was before lockdown and I travelled with my family across Europe to Croatia and in all honesty, I walked from the bar to the beach and it was great. I am planning another trip to Nepal to do the Annapurna, so watch this space.
Riki will be escorting our groups this Spring & Autumn across all dates on “Walking The Gower Peninsula. View the latest dates & availability here >
