HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR WALKING HOLIDAY IN
TRANSYLVANIA & BUCHAREST

Last week, two of us from the team – myself (Emily) and my colleague Gemma – had the chance to join one of our walking holidays to Bucharest and the breathtaking region of Transylvania.

While the weather gave us a few soggy moments (nothing a good waterproof couldn’t handle!), it didn’t dampen the beauty of the landscapes we explored. We laced up our boots for two incredible walks in the Transylvanian Alps, where the scenery was nothing short of magical – think misty forests, rolling hills, and dramatic mountain views. We even spotted some fresh bear prints along the trail… but thankfully, no actual bears crossed our path – much to our relief!

It was a trip full of culture, adventure and unforgettable moments, and we’re excited to share some of our highlights with you.

Step into some of the highlights of our trip...

Catch a glimpse of our unforgettable Transylvanian adventure in this holiday highlights video! We began our journey with a wander through Bucharest, admiring the city’s grand buildings and rich culture. After a tasty hotel breakfast the next morning, we met our group and set off by mini bus into the mountains. A stop in Sinaia gave us our first magical castle experience, before arriving in Brasov where Gabriel led us on an insightful (and slightly drizzly) walking tour, followed by a delicious included dinner at a traditional restaurant in the old town.
The next two days were all about embracing the great outdoors – walking through lush forests, peaceful meadows, and spotting plenty of farm animals along the way. We truly immersed ourselves in the natural beauty of the southern Carpathians. On our final day, we explored the iconic Dracula’s Bran Castle before Gemma and I sadly had to say goodbye. We’re sure that the rest of the group enjoyed even more of Romania’s charm and adventure!

Meet Gabriel

We also had the pleasure of meeting Gabriel, our wonderful local walking guide who lives in Brașov. His deep cultural and historical knowledge brought each walk to life, and he led us along some of the most stunning trails we’ve ever experienced.

Gabriel was an absolute standout—helpful, knowledgeable, and full of fascinating insights about the local area. Guests were especially impressed by the depth of his knowledge during the Bucharest tour, which brought the city’s rich history and hidden gems to life. His carefully chosen scenic walks were another highlight, showcasing the breathtaking beauty of the region while sharing stories and facts that truly enhanced the experience. Gabriel’s passion and expertise made the trip extra special for everyone involved.

We learned that Romania is home to many brown bears—but luckily, Gabriel was quick to reassure us that, as a large group, we were unlikely to encounter any up close! His calm confidence put everyone at ease, and his knowledge of local wildlife made it all the more fascinating. We were even lucky enough to spot a few (very big!) bear paw prints along one of our scenic walks, which added a real sense of adventure to the day.

Our walks took us through peaceful meadows and farmland, where we spotted cows, horses, goats, and the occasional friendly farm dog trotting nearby. Nature was truly all around—at one point, we paused for a break and a beautiful butterfly gently landed on my hand, adding a little magic to the moment. It was a wonderful way to connect with the tranquil rhythm of rural life.

Charming Streets & Medieval Magic: A Taste of Brasov

Brasov is a must-visit gem nestled in the heart of Transylvania, offering a perfect blend of history, charm, and natural beauty. Surrounded by dramatic mountains and lush forests, it’s an ideal base for scenic walks and exploring the great outdoors. The cobbled streets, colourful buildings, and medieval architecture give the town a fairy-tale feel—there’s something new to discover around every corner!

Dracula's Bran Castle

Our visit to Bran Castle was a definite highlight – steeped in legend and perched dramatically on a rocky hilltop, it looks like something straight from a storybook. The slightly overcast skies and cool breeze added to the atmosphere, giving the whole experience a mysterious, almost eerie feel. As we explored its winding staircases and hidden rooms, we learned about the real history behind the Dracula myths. The views from the top were incredible, and the castle’s unique charm made it a truly unforgettable experience.
